Velid is 17 years old, deaf-mute and Yazidi – his story is one of flight, courage and a great dream.
Velid is 17 years old and a Yazidi from the Sinjar Mountains. His childhood was marked by flight from violence and persecution. When the genocide against the Yazidis began in 2014, Velid and his family had to leave everything behind. They found refuge in Turkey and have been living in the city of Midyat for several years. But for Velid, the flight brought not only the loss of his homeland, but also a great personal challenge: Velid is deaf-mute.
Even as a child, it was difficult for him to communicate. In Iraq there was no opportunity for him to receive therapy, and in Turkey such therapies are also not supported by the state. Over the past 14 months, Velid’s speech therapy was made possible through private donations from a family. This support represented a significant ray of hope and a valuable boost for his personal speech development.
The progress Velid has made since then is remarkable. Through intensive support he has learned to express himself better and communicate with his environment. The therapy not only gives him new possibilities, but also self-confidence. But this is only the beginning of his journey.
Velid has a great dream: he wants to be able to hear and speak. For this he urgently needs long-term therapy and a high-quality hearing aid. The hearing aid will enable him to perceive sounds and voices – this therapy will change his life. But the costs for the therapy and the hearing aid exceed our financial means.
To enable Velid to live a self-determined life, we depend on support. Every contribution can help make his dream a reality. Velid has already proven that with the right support he can make incredible progress – now he needs a chance to reach his full potential. Help us give Velid the future he deserves.
